About the Society

The Ladysmith and District Historical Society was incorporated as a "not for profit society" in 1999.

Its purpose is to preserve the heritage of the town of Ladysmith. As a Society we hope to expand our funding and build a heritage for the town. The Town of Ladysmith has already pledged support and money for our cause. We also volunteer in events in the area.  We have an office in Ladysmith where we are accumulating the past. A number of folk have already taken advantage of our valuable resources.

We are embarking on the creation of an Archive building where people can come and see and research the colourful past of Ladysmith.  It is scheduled to be open in Summer 2008.  Location is on the highway side of the Tim Horton's.  In the meantime you are welcome to visit us.  We are open Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 3:00pm.  We are on the second story of the building next to the Post Office on First.  Second floor, #4.

We have a number of dedicated individuals who are involved. Kit Willmot is our Corresponding Secretary and is a noted historian for the area. A number of noted writer/historians have been involved right from the beginning. A good number of historical artifacts and documents have been acquired. Many individuals have promised the donation of family possessions important to the history of the area.

Corporate sponsors are important to us. Businesses and merchants in Ladysmith have given us valuable support of cash, time, equipment and advertising. It is important that everyone in Ladysmith get involved in this project. It will be the legacy we leave for future generations.

Our monthly meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Contact us if you want details of how you can be involved. As well, your support is needed, $15 will make you a member of The Society.
