Mayor Daniel Nicholson purchased the lumber business from John Coburn and eventually became one of the primary developers in Ladysmith. He has left a lasting legacy of development in Ladysmith, both as Mayor and a developer/businessman in the area. His legacy is still remembered. The present day Wigwam Restaurant is located in one of his buildings. Dan Nicolson was also a primary contractor in Ladysmith. The little cottage on first avenue (presently a picture framing shop) where the family grew up is still there. His company constructed many buildings in town. He also had the main contract to haul coal in town, constructed the first Ladysmith Hospital and was appointed as the Road Superintendant for the area.
He was elected for one year in 1906, defeated by P. Malone he returned for 2 subsequent years in 1908.
