Mayor Kathleen (Kay) Grouhel
1965-1976

mayor grouhel

Mayor Grouhel has the single distinction of being the only woman mayor of Ladysmith.  As the wife of Joseph Grouhel her relationship goes back many years to the early days of a dairy farm on the road that bears the family name.

Kay as she prefered to be called got the distinctive nickname of "Concrete Kay".  She is responsible for all the cement sidewalks we now have today.  Today the nice level roads and the sidewalks are her legacy.   She also has the distinction of being the senior surviving Mayor of earlier days.  Her family still lives in town, she has retired to Victoria.
